While caffeinated beverages aren’t inherently dehydrating, they do cause a diuretic effect in the body. Because of this, urination is more frequent than with non caffeinated drinks. When you aren’t replenishing your hydration stores with water, it can be easy to become mildly dehydrated.
A cup of coffee a day isn’t likely to affect you that badly. However, if you tend to reach for the coffee pot multiple times a day, take a second to think twice. After all, feeling tired can often be a symptom of dehydration. Try a glass of water, before reaching for the caffeinated drinks.
