Running
When it comes to running, one piece of gear reigns supreme: a high quality running shoe.
Proper running shoes come with extra cushioning in the sole to help protect the feet from repeated stress injuries. A good shoe can also help with other issues, such as pronating, shin splint, and arch pain.
We recommend taking a trip to a store that specializes in running. The professionals can analyze your gait, and help you select a shoe that will give you the best support.
Because most people run outside, the key when it comes to choosing running gear is to pick breathable layers. A general rule of thumb is to dress as if it is ten degrees warmer than it already is.

Speaking of cold weather, nothing is worse than bundling up for a winter run, but ending up with a frozen nose. For a simple solution, consider investing in a Buff. Yoga
Yoga is a workout designed to meet you where you are at. Because of that, almost any comfortable clothing will do the trick. However, there are a few things you want to keep in mind when choosing what to wear.
Much of yoga focuses on inversions, meaning you’ll be hanging out upside down for a fair portion of class. There’s nothing more annoying than trying to do your best downward dog, only to find your face enveloped in the gaping neckline of your shirt.
We recommend sticking to tops that are well fitted. This will prevent that annoying gapping, as well as your shirt accidentally flipping inside out over your head.
The same goes for your bottoms. If you choose to wear shorts, stick to bike shorts to avoid any riding up.
Weight Training
Weight training is one of the easiest workouts to dress for. Your standard gym wear will do just fine. The most important thing is to choose a flat sneaker that has a decent amount of grip.
If you’re getting serious about weightlifting, consider buying a pair of wrist wrappers. These supportive tools will help hold your wrists in the right position, for better form and injury prevention.
A weightlifting belt is another great product to invest in. These belts create pressure on your abdomen, encouraging you to lift properly.
Pilates
Like weightlifting, pilates is fairly easy to dress for. The key is to choose a pair of bottoms that allow your legs to move freely, without riding up. If you are doing mat pilates, ankle and wrist weights can help you add intensity and build strength.
Hiking
Hiking can be a great way to build muscle while enjoying the beauty of nature. Before you take on those steep trails, though, you might want to invest in the right gear.
If you are hiking somewhere with uneven trails, hiking boots are probably the best option. Hiking in sneakers is growing in popularity, but there is nothing worse than twisting your ankle on a tree root, or hidden stone. Hiking boots will provide you with ankle support and stability. Like running shoes, you can get fitted for a quality pair of hiking boots at any outdoors store.
If you are planning to hike in many different areas a pair of convertable hiking pants are a must. Look, zip-off shorts might not sound like the coolest article of clothing, but when you are hiking in a place where the scenery changes quickly, they can be a lifesaver. Keep them as long pants in heavily wooded areas, to avoid scratches or bug bikes. In hot, open climates, convert them easily into shorts.
Swimming
Swimming is an excellent way to get your cardio in. Unlike other forms of exercise, though, this one does require specific gear to be successful.
Your typical swim trunks or bikini simply aren’t going to cut it, when it comes to swimming laps at the pool. Lap swimming requires you to be as streamlined as possible, and a baggy suit will cause you to drag in the water. Don’t worry! We’re not asking you to pull out the tiny Speedo quite yet.
