Five Easy Nutritious Smoothie Recipes

Are you looking to start your day by incorporating more fresh fruits and veggies? Then a smoothie might be the perfect solution for you!

Smoothies are a great breakfast option as they are fast, customizable, and an easy way to get a well-rounded meal.

It’s easy to fall into a rut when it comes to making smoothies. That’s why we have grafted a list of our five favorite smoothies to start your morning on the right foot.

Tropical Breeze:

The key to green smoothies is to use other strong flavors that help mask that distinctly “healthy” flavor that turns many people off from green smoothies. In this case, we’re relying on pineapple and ginger to help you feel like you are on a tropical vacation.

We love using ginger in our morning smoothies, as it can help aid digestion. It is also packed with antioxidants and contains anti-inflammatory properties.

For the “green” portion of your smoothie, you can use whatever you have on hand. Personally, we like a blend of kale and spinach, but either one will do just fine on its own.

Tropical Breeze Smoothie:

1 Ripe Banana (fresh or frozen)

¼ Cup of frozen pineapple, cubed

¼ Cup of frozen mango, cubed

½ Cup of coconut milk

2 Cup of Greens (recommended: 1 cup each of kale and spinach)

1 Tbsp of ginger, grated

1 lime, juiced

Strawberry Banana:

There is nothing more classic than a strawberry and banana smoothie. However, in this version, we like to up the nutritional content by adding unsweetened Greek yogurt and protein powder.

Not all protein powders are created equal. Many of them have hidden sugars and additives that can give you less than stellar results. We are huge fans of the California Performance Company’s protein powders. They dissolve well, are vegan, and are free of added sugars, gluten, and soy.

If a whey-based protein powder is not for you, we also love the Organic Hemp Protein Powder from Trader Joe’s. Hemp seeds are particularly powerful when it comes to improving your heart health.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie:

1 Banana (fresh or Frozen)

1 cup of frozen Strawberries

3 Tablespoons/1 scoop of protein powder

½ cup of full fat greek yogurt

1 cup of milk (plant-based milk is just fine)

Heavy Metal Detox:

The concept of a heavy metal detox came into popularity after it was introduced by popular influencer the Medical Medium. While scientific research doesn’t necessarily support all of his claims, we don’t see anything wrong with helping out your body by giving it a bit of nutritional support.

For our recipe, we are focusing on three key ingredients; blueberries, beets, and cilantro. Doesn’t sound like a winning combo? Hear us out.

Blueberries are known for being high in antioxidants, making them a perfect ingredient to fight any unwanted substances in the body. That being said, we prefer to opt for frozen wild blueberries rather than traditionally farmed berries. While a little bit more expensive, they also have higher levels of antioxidants.

Cilantro has been shown in some scientific studies to help absorb heavy metals like lead from water. In mice, it has also helped remove lead from their body tissues. Can’t stand the taste of cilantro? You can substitute it for another green, such as spinach or kale.

You might never have thought to add beets to your smoothie, but they add a delicious, deep flavor as well as a vivid color to your morning beverage. Beets are a powerful source of iron and contain minerals that help support liver function.

Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie

1 Banana (fresh or frozen)

1 Cup of Frozen Wild Blueberries

½ Cup of Cilantro, chopped

½ cup of beets, cubed

Juice of 1 lime

2 Tbsps Chia Seeds

1 Tbsps Hemp seeds

2 Cups of water

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie:

Love smoothies but struggle to feel full all morning? We’ve got you covered.

This is for sure, our most calorically dense smoothie that will keep you feeling satiated all morning long. The key? Rolled oats.

Oats are a great source of fiber, protein, and carbs, making them a hugely balanced food. We love blending them up with all-natural peanut butter to create a thick, creamy smoothie that tastes like a cookie.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie

1 Banana (fresh or frozen)

2 Tbsps All natural peanut butter

¼ cup of oats

½ Greek Yogurt

1 cup of milk (plant-based optional)

Cacao Nibs for topping

Orange Dreamsicle:

If you grew up with orange creamsicles as your favorite summer treat, you need to try this smoothie!

We love this smoothie as an option for those who are looking to get in their daily dose of vitamin C. The base of this smoothie is vitamin-rich fresh squeezed orange juice. While the juice is tasty on its own, combining it with the fiber of a smoothie will help keep you full without the blood sugar spike of plain juice.

Greek yogurt creates the creamy quality of this breakfast staple while giving you a dose of protein and fat. Grated carrot helps create its signature orange color while also providing Vitamin A.

Orange Dreamsicle Smoothie

1 Cup Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

1 Cup Greek Yogurt

½ Frozen Mango

1 Banana (fresh or frozen)

¼ cup Carrot, grated

½ Milk (plant-based optional)
